Intermediate school, grades four and five, is a time of rapid development and transition. The curriculum is designed both to build upon the foundations of lower school while preparing the students for the greater academic expectations of middle school. The environment is stimulating and educationally serious. Teachers work collaboratively. Cross-curricular and cross grade level learning and activities are frequent.
Students learn the value of both independent thinking and teamwork. The core subjects of intermediate school are language arts, math, science, and social studies. These are complemented by special area classes in art, Spanish, library, music, physical education, and computer technology. Character development is also stressed with increasing frequency and emphasis as the students develop both mentally and physically.
