Mrs. Ramona Harr, Head of School

M.S. Elementary Education
Mrs. Harr brings a wealth of leadership experience in both public and independent schools, guiding students from early childhood through high school. She believes in creating innovative, hands-on learning experiences that spark curiosity and foster critical thinking, helping students connect classroom knowledge to real-world applications. She is passionate about empowering both students and teachers to approach learning with confidence, purpose, and excitement.
A proud Sullins parent and now grandparent, Mrs. Harr’s two sons are Sullins alumni, and her late husband, Dr. Jon Paul Harr, was an alumnus of The Episcopal Day School. She cherishes time with her three grandchildren and enjoys great conversation, exploring new ideas, and believes laughter is essential in life. Her hobbies include building with Legos, working puzzles and sudoku, spending time outdoors landscaping or mowing, and tackling creative building projects. At home, she is kept company by her Great Pyrenees, Murphy.

Mrs. Susan Ruble, Assistant Head of School | Admissions
B.A. The University of Virginia at Wise
During her 15 years at Sullins Academy, Mrs. Ruble has taught junior kindergarten, kindergarten, first grade, and second grade. Before entering the field of education, she worked as a social worker for nearly a decade. Her love for Sullins deepened when her daughter attended from fifth through eighth grade. She and her late husband, Tim, credit the school with helping their daughter develop the confidence, time management, and study skills that have served her well in her career as a licensed clinical social worker in private practice.
Mrs. Ruble is passionate about fostering self-confidence in students, encouraging them to take academic risks, and empowering them to take ownership of their learning. She has a strong interest in phonics and syllabication and is currently pursuing Orton-Gillingham certification. In addition to her work in the Admissions Office, she provides ongoing support to teachers and is dedicated to strengthening the school’s curriculum.

Mrs. Twana Meade, Assoc. Head of Business Affairs
A.S. Virginia Highlands Community College
Mrs. Meade has 38 years of accounting experience with 30 of those at Sullins Academy. She enjoys reading, puzzles, the beach, the lake, and spending time with family.

Mrs. Angie Schumaker, Administrative Assistant
Mrs. Schumaker has been at Sullins Academy for 31 years. She is married to John, and they have two daughters who both attended Sullins. Mrs. Schumaker enjoys spending time with her family, which includes her three grandsons, lake days, shopping, reading, summer, and the beach.

Mrs. Mary Walling, Marketing & Communications | Kindergarten

Mrs. Walling, a Sullins alumna, began her teaching career at Sullins Academy in 2015. She is married to her high school sweetheart, Austin, and they have a son, Mark, who is in junior kindergarten. Mrs. Walling enjoys Hokie football, shopping, playing outside with her little boy, and watching movies.
"I attended Sullins Academy as a child and truly believe that my love for learning and teaching began here. It is a wonderful experience being able to see the same love for this school shine through each of my kindergarten students. As the Marketing and Communications Coordinator, I am committed to sharing #whySullins is a wonderful place for students to excel in differentiated learning and grow as individuals."

Mr. Max Lawson '00, Director of Technology
B.S. Virginia Tech
Mr. Lawson has 14 years of experience consulting for technology needs for large organizations and hospitals. Mr. Lawson is married with three children - Kate, a Sullins graduate, Molly, 4th grade, and Louise, 1st grade.
"I assist with technology in education, because I think it’s a fundamental skill that everyone will need in the future. My goal is to make sure that technology at Sullins is a useful tool to help in building the best educational experience in the region."
