Ms. Greene began teaching in 1978 in New York State and has taught in Florida and Virginia for 39 years. Her versatility in the classroom has enabled her to teach pre-school through college. She has been at Sullins Academy for 22 years and has taught grades from preschool through second over the years.

Mrs. Foley comes to Sullins with 14 years of teaching experience with six of those being in Bristol. She loves to spend time with family and friends and enjoys reading, hiking, and traveling when she isn't teaching. Sullins is extra special to her as she gets to spend her days teaching at the same school her two children attend.

"I teach because it brings me so much joy to see my students grow and become life-long learners. I'm excited to teach at Sullins because of the solid learning foundation it provides for future success. I'm impressed by the school's emphasis on community service and the importance of character education. I loved the warm welcome my family received when we moved to Bristol."

Ms. Kalyn Allen, Junior Kindergarten Teacher

Ms. Allen has six years of experience working with children, four of those teaching. During that time, she has enjoyed working with children ranging from two years to six years of age. Ms. Allen enjoys gardening, playing with her dogs, water skiing, and spending time with her family.

Mrs. Susan Ruble, Junior Kindergarten Teacher | Admissions | Academic Support Coordinator

During Mrs. Ruble's 12 year history with Sullins, she has taught junior kindergarten, kindergarten, first, and second grade. Prior to a career in the field of education, she was employed as a social worker for approximately ten years.  Sullins Academy became near and dear to Mrs. Ruble’s heart during her daughter’s attendance in the fifth through eighth grade. She and her husband, Tim, credit Sullins with the development of confidence, time management, and study skills that have served their daughter well into her college career. Mrs. Ruble is passionate about early childhood development and the study of phonics and syllabication.

Mrs. Mary Walling, Kindergarten Teacher

B.S. Elementary Education, East Tennessee State University

Mrs. Walling, a Sullins alumna, began her teaching career at Sullins Academy in 2015. She enjoys walking her dog, going to the movies, shopping, and Hokie football.


"I attended Sullins Academy as a child and truly believe that my love for learning and teaching began here. It is a wonderful experience being able to see the same love for this school shine through each of my kindergarten students. Ms. Shelly Van Wyhe, Kindergarten Teacher

Ms. Van Wyhe has seven years teaching experience, five of those years at Sullins Academy. She participated in the 2018 ITEEA Conference in Atlanta, Georgia representing S.T.E.A.M education for Sullins. Ms. Van Wyhe has also coached cross-country at Sullins Academy for two seasons as well as served as a liaison and head coach for Girls On the Run. She and her son, Dante, are very athletic and love spending time running, swimming, hiking, and exploring.
